Latest Updates on Ford Explorer

What's New on Ford Explorer?

Introduction

  • Most family SUV buyers in the UAE look for a reliable seven-seater, a spacious cabin, a capable engine, no real complaints, and no real excitement. Among the top Japanese brands that dominate this segment, one key car stands out: the Ford Explorer from the American brand Ford. Having been around for a while in the Emirates, it received its latest update in 2025 with some key changes internally and externally, which make it a compelling, wholesome package.
  • The Explorer attracts a specific UAE buyer profile: those looking for more than what a Nissan Pathfinder or Toyota Prado offers in interior technology; those spending real money and wanting to feel that in the experience; and those who want something that is not common. That is where the Explorer truly stands out.
  • Pros & Cons Things we like in Explorer High-grade engines Ample cargo capacity Fine ride quality Things we don't like in Explorer A bit expensive Limited third-row space No automatic high beam headlamps View More

Exterior

  • Most of you would agree that the front end is cleaner, sharper, and pretty similar to its version of what came before. The LED headlamps are standard across all variants, and the grille treatment changes by trim: the Active variant gets a black mesh with chrome bars, and the Platinum one moves to a satin chrome and ebony finish, while the ST goes all black with no chrome at all. At 5,049 mm long and 2,004 mm wide, you feel the Explorer's presence. The raised hood line, the wide shoulder, and the upright front tell a lot about what this car is: a full-size American family SUV.
  • The side profile is where the Explorer's American DNA is most obvious. The long doors, the flat roofline that runs almost completely level before dropping gently at the rear, and the clean character line down the flank give the car a composed, imposing stance. The power-folding mirrors with LED turn signal indicators are on the Platinum and ST; the Active variants get manual-folding mirrors with heated glass, which is adequate but worth noting. The integrated power liftgate is standard across all variants, a true convenience.
  • The Active 200A starts on 18-inch aluminum wheels; the Active with the Comfort Package can be optioned with 20-inch luster nickel-painted aluminum wheels. The Platinum runs 20-inch wheels as standard, while the ST gets 21-inch Magnetite alloy wheels with a P275/45R21 tire.
  • You see immediately that the full LED tail lamps with integrated daytime running lamps come as standard from the Active upward. The ST gets a unique blackout treatment on both the headlamps and taillamps, which sharpens the rear's appearance considerably. The quad chrome exhaust tips on the ST are visible from behind and underline the performance intent. The Active and Platinum get dual exhaust. The rear parking sensors are not standard on the base Active; they appear on the Platinum and ST, which is something to factor into your variant decision.
  • Engine & Fuel Consumption Key Highlights Specification Active 200A / Comfort Pkg / Platinum ST 400A Engine 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 3.0L EcoBoost V6 Power 300 hp @ 5,500 rpm 400 hp @ 5,500 rpm Torque 420 Nm @ 3,500 rpm 563 Nm @ 3,500 rpm Transmission 10-speed automatic 10-speed SelectShift automatic Drive 4WD (2WD available on Comfort package) 4WD Fuel Economy 12.7 km/L (13.0 for 2WD) 11.3 km/L Selectable Drive Modes 6 6 Dimensions 5,049 mm L x 2,004 mm W x 1,775 mm H Same Seating 7 7 Boot Space 515 L (third row up) 515 L (third row up) City Performance Around the city, the 2.3L EcoBoost is entirely at ease. The 300 hp and 420 Nm are more than sufficient for pulling away on the ramps near Dubai Frame, merging confidently onto the Sheikh Zayed Road, or making a U-turn at the Business Bay intersection with a full load. The 10-speed automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and without drama; you do not feel it hunting for the right ratio in slow-moving traffic near Deira or Al Barsha. At 2,004 mm wide, parking structures require a bit of attention. The 360-degree camera on the Platinum is really great the moment you try to park in the basement of the Mall of the Emirates on a Friday afternoon. On the active, you have only a rear-view camera, which is a meaningful difference. Highway Performance On the highway, the Explorer does what large American SUVs do well: it settles, quietens, and covers ground with a sense of effortless authority. At 120 km/h on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai E11, the cabin is well insulated, and the engine is running well within its comfort zone. The ST's 3.0L V6 at 400 hp and 563 Nm is a different experience entirely. Overtaking on the fast lane near Dubai Investment Park requires barely a thought, and the ST variant's SelectShift gearbox responds sharply to paddle inputs if you choose to use them. Ride and Handling The Explorer is a unibody SUV, which clearly separates its ride character from a ladder-frame car like the Everest. On UAE roads, this works in its favor. It absorbs the expansion joints on the E11, the speed bumps in Jumeirah, and the degraded surfaces near older parts of Al Ain with a degree of composure that a body-on-frame SUV simply cannot match at the same speed. Body roll exists but is well-controlled for a car this size and this tall. The steering is accurate and appropriately weighted for a family hauler; it does not ask for your involvement, but it responds sensibly when you give it. The six selectable drive modes allow you to adapt the Explorer's character slightly, though for most UAE driving, the default mode is all you ever need.

Interior

  • Inside the Explorer, what attracts your attention is the massive 13.2-inch touchscreen in the center of the cockpit, which is standard across every single variant. It is well-positioned and runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster is right behind the steering wheel on all variants. This is not a cabin that makes you work hard to find its technology; it is right there to see and experience. The quality difference between trims is significant and worth understanding. The Active has cloth seats with heated fronts; it's usable, durable, and honest. The Active with Comfort Package upgrades to ActiveX, a perforated material that looks like leather from a distance, with heated fronts. The Platinum uses real leather with Miko perforated inserts, heated and cooled front seats, and adds massage functionality. The ST uses ActiveX with heated and cooled front seats and massage. The ST's interior is sportier in its trims and uses ambient lighting throughout. Worth pointing out: the door card plastics and lower dashboard surfaces in the Active variants are harder than what you feel in the Platinum. This is normal for the price gap. But if you step from a Platinum to an Active without checking the spec sheet first, the cabin quality drop is noticeable. The panoramic Vista Roof is absent on the base Active 200A.
  • The front-seat story in the Explorer is one of the range's clearest buying signals. The Actives have a 10-way power driver seat, which is good at this price level, and a 4-way power passenger seat. The Comfort Package bumps the passenger to 8-way power. The Platinum and ST bring 6-way power passenger seats alongside the 10-way driver setup. The Platinum's heated and cooled leather front seats with massage are a different experience from the Active's cloth, and if you regularly drive the Abu Dhabi to Dubai corridor, you will feel the difference on day one. The memory function for the driver seat and side mirrors appears only on the Platinum and ST. The heated leather steering wheel with power tilt and telescoping is on the Platinum and ST.
  • The Explorer does not use an electronic parking brake. It runs a traditional setup across the range. Hill launch assist manages the rollback concern on slopes, but the absence of auto-hold means you are holding the brake in traffic.
  • The second row in the Explorer is where this car serves the UAE family. The bench is wide, the legroom is generous, and the three-abreast configuration is more comfortable given the Explorer's overall width. The tri-zone climate control means the front, second row, and third row each control their own temperature independently; this is standard across all variants, which is the right call. The third row deserves honest commentary, though; it is the Explorer's third row, which means it is usable for adults on short journeys and comfortable for children. The USB-C connectivity in the third row is standard across the range, meaning rear passengers can charge their devices without asking the front occupants for a cable.
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control is standard across every Explorer variant in the UAE, and this should be non-negotiable at this price point. The second and third rows get their own dedicated vents and controls, meaning the driver's temperature preference has no bearing on whether the kids in the back are comfortable.
  • The Explorer's American proportions translate into true practical interior storage. The center console bin is deep and wide, as are the door pockets, able to hold full-size water bottles with room to spare. Four 12V power outlets are standard across all variants. The Platinum and ST add a 230V AC outlet, which is one of those features that sounds excessive until you need it. USB connectivity is thorough: the front row gets one Type A and one Type C, the center console has two Type C ports, and the second and third rows each get two Type C ports.
  • The front center armrest is padded and wide, with covered storage below. The second-row armrest folds down from the seatback, and the cup holders within it are correctly sized for UAE road trip bottle formats. The third row does not have a dedicated armrest, which is consistent with the class.
  • Wireless charging is absent on the Active 200A and the Active with Comfort Package. It appears on the Platinum and the ST as standard.
  • With all three rows up, the Explorer offers 515 liters behind the third row. Fold the third row flat, and that number climbs substantially, enough for airport luggage for a family of five.
  • Safety Key Highlights Seven airbags are standard across all Explorer variants. The active safety split between the Active and the Platinum or ST is meaningful and worth understanding before making a purchase decision. Across all variants: Seven SRS airbags. ISO-Fix. Individual TPMS. SOS Post-Crash Alert System. SecuriLock anti-theft. 3-point belts at all seats. Rearview camera. Adaptive cruise control. Evasive steering assist. From the Platinum and ST : Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, which is a step above the Active's Assist+. 360-degree camera. Front and rear parking sensors. Auto-dimming rearview mirror. Blind Spot Information System. Cross-Traffic Alert. The Assist 2.0 package on the Platinum and ST is materially better than Assist+ for highway driving. Lane centering, more responsive automatic emergency braking, and a more capable suite of driver monitoring make the Platinum a noticeably safer car on the E11.
