The next-generation BMW X2 was recently spotted undergoing tests, albeit in a heavily camouflaged avatar. Some visible changes include a new pattern for the lower and upper grille along with a new bumper design. The German luxury carmaker introduced the Edition Goldplay appearance package on the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i models for 2023 in the international market. In UAE, the car is available in a single trim. The BMW X2 sDrive20i M Sport is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.0-liter petrol engine that produces 192PS/280Nm. The motor is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch. Price of the BMW X2 starts at AED 133,700.

  • The BMW X2 has broken the conventional path followed by other BMW SUVs and crossovers in the past, and bears a striking design language which feels very refreshing without ditching the traditional design ethos.
  • Take for instance, the front fascia. While the BMW X2 too sports the car maker’s traditional double kidney grille with chrome surrounds, they do get different outer tapered edges as compared to rounded ones on other BMWs.
  • The headlamps are shaped like eyebrows and inculcate the latest of LED lighting technology, while still retaining the corona ring theme for the daytime running LEDs. The fog lamps are positioned slightly higher here, just below the headlamps, with triangular faux air vents positioned below them.
  • The BMW X2 gets a hunkered stance from the sides, with the crossover getting slightly hunkered stance and lower ground clearance as well as large alloy wheel options to up to 20-inchers. The wheel arches are slightly squared here as well.

Interior

  • On the inside, the BMW X2 doesn’t break any new ground significantly and follows the traditional BMW layout of having a top-quality cabin with a sophisticated layout. The all-black cabin is characterised by a contrast silver theme running through the middle of the dashboard, with colour coded inserts adding some zing to it.
  • The three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel looks nice with the silver inserts and so does the simple-looking instrument console. However, we do wish to see the full digital TFT screen here as in bigger and more premium BMW vehicles.
  • As in all previous BMWs, the centre console here is slightly tilted towards the driver, with a proper trapezoidal theme carried out for the free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, AC vents, and controls for dual-zone automatic climate control.
